The short version

Loopback Recorder runs entirely on your device. We don't collect personal data, and your screen recordings never leave your phone unless you choose to share them. The app uses Firebase Crashlytics to send anonymous crash diagnostics (stack traces, device model, OS version) to help us fix bugs — no personal data or screen content is ever included.

01 Overview

Loopback Recorder ("the app", "we", "us") is an Android application that continuously captures your screen into a short rolling buffer, so you can save the last few minutes of activity after a bug appears. This policy explains exactly what the app does — and does not do — with your information.

Our guiding principle is simple: your data stays yours, on your device. The app is designed to function with zero server-side infrastructure.

02 Data we collect

We do not collect any personal data. To be specific:

Screen recordings
Stored locally on your device only — never transmitted.

Because nothing is transmitted off your device, there is no server log, no database, and no profile associated with you anywhere.

03 Use of Android's Accessibility Service

Loopback Recorder uses Android's Accessibility Service to capture screen content in the background. This is the mechanism that lets the app maintain a rolling buffer without you having to press record beforehand.

Why this permission? The Accessibility Service is used solely to read screen frames so they can be stitched into a local video buffer. It is not used to read passwords, monitor your activity for any other purpose, or transmit screen contents anywhere.

Per Google Play policy, accessibility access is requested only for the app's core functionality — continuous on-device screen capture — and the captured frames are processed entirely locally.

04 Your recordings

When you tap Save, the app writes the buffered frames into a standard video file (MP4) in your device's local storage or gallery.

  • Recordings are stored only on your device.
  • The app never uploads, backs up, or transmits recordings to us or any third party.
  • Buffered frames that you don't save are continuously overwritten and discarded.
  • You are in full control: you can view, share, or delete saved clips using your device's normal file and gallery tools.
If you choose to share a saved clip — for example by attaching it to a bug ticket, message, or email — that sharing is performed by you through other apps, and is governed by those apps' privacy practices, not ours.

05 Permissions we request

The app requests only the permissions required to function:

To keep the buffer running reliably and show its status while active.
Internet
Used exclusively to transmit anonymous crash reports to Firebase Crashlytics when the app crashes.

We do not request the camera, microphone, contacts, or location.

06 Third-party services

Loopback Recorder does not include advertising, analytics, or usage-tracking libraries.

Firebase Crashlytics

We use Firebase Crashlytics (by Google) to collect anonymous crash reports so we can diagnose and fix stability issues. When the app crashes, Crashlytics automatically sends:

  • Stack trace of the crash
  • Device model and manufacturer
  • Android OS version
  • App version and build number
  • A randomly generated installation ID (not linked to your identity)
Crashlytics does not collect your name, email, location, screen content, or recordings. No personally identifiable information is transmitted.

Crash data is processed by Google under their Firebase privacy policy.

The app is distributed through the Google Play Store. Your download and installation are subject to Google's Privacy Policy, which is outside our control.

07 Children's privacy

Loopback Recorder is a developer and QA tool intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. Because we do not collect any personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect information from children.

08 Changes to this policy

If we update this Privacy Policy, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note the change within the app or on this site. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
